Job Description

The NIH T32 Translational Training Program in Pulmonary Biology and Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh is recruiting a full-time postdoctoral scholar.

Our program is designed to provide outstanding education and cutting-edge research training with a comprehensive, structured, and individualized career development approach in the field of pulmonary biology and medicine. With an emphasis on the cross-cutting themes in lung diseases of aging, health services and disparities, microbiome and infections, and immunology and inflammation, our training program offers new initiatives dedicated to statistical training, expanded training and collaborations in advanced computational and systems biology approaches, access to novel lung tissue modeling techniques, career coaching, and a diversity and inclusion curriculum while ensuring comprehensive training across the spectrum of pulmonary diseases using innovative technology to impact lung health and train future pulmonary scientists. Our training plan is structured around individualized development plans that emphasize publications, career development awards and completion of didactic courses and graduate programs to assist with the transition to research and academic careers through a structured, milestone-driven program. Trainees will gain access to skills in evolving technologies at the bench, sophisticated computation and ‘omics approaches, large patient cohorts and data analytics, and integration of social determinants of health.

Qualifications or Expectations:

  • Ability to independently perform research and related tasks (e.g., write and present abstracts, publish journal articles, apply for grant funding, etc.) with mentoring from faculty member(s)
  • Post-graduate degree (e.g., MD, PhD, DO, DVM, PharmD)
  • US citizen or permanent resident

Duties or Responsibilities:

  • Attend weekly research seminars and monthly workshops on rigor and reproducibility in research
  • Complete at least 8 hours of responsible conduct of research instruction
  • Develop and carry out research proposal focused on pulmonary biology in collaboration with mentor(s)
  • Devise an Individual Development Plan tailored to your training goals with mentor team
  • Generate and submit applications for career development awards and fellowship grants
  • Meet with mentor(s) regularly and T32 Directors semi-annually to review progress
  • Participate in career/professional development courses and content-specific courses related to research project
  • Present at local, national, and international conferences
  • Write abstracts and journal articles as first author
