Pay range for this position is $60,750-70,000.

Position Function: Under the direction of the University College leadership, the Assistant Director of First Year Seminar will coordinate University College first year seminar courses, programs, and events designed to facilitate student academic success, foster a greater sense of community, and increase student persistence and retention within students new to Ball State University. The Assistant Director will serve as a liaison from Academic Affairs to Summer Bridge programs, Orientation and Welcome Week, the Living Learning Communities, First Year Faculty Ambassadors, the Career Center, and Commuter Connections.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in relevant field from an accredited institution. Three years of experience with innovative student success and retention initiatives in a higher education setting. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple simultaneous projects with attention to detail and adherence to deadlines. Demonstrated ability to form collaborative relationships with other University offices. Commitment to diversity and inclusion. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty. Ability to recruit, train, and supervise undergraduate student staff. Classroom teaching experience.

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience developing or modifying first year seminar course curriculum. Experience working with professionals in a Career Center and in Living and Learning Communities. Experience collaborating with Summer Orientation and Welcome Weeks programming. Solid knowledge of trends in higher education as they relate to student success, retention and support, inclusive and student-centered pedagogy, and best practices in first year seminar courses.
