Ball State University, Department of Special Education, has part-time adjunct instructor positions available for the Fall and Spring semesters. Instructors are needed to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in American Sign Language (ASL). Both on campus and online courses are available.

Position Function:
Adjunct instructors will teach courses related to specialty areas within ASL. Both on-campus and online instructors will be responsible for teaching, grading, providing quality feedback on assignments, and responding to students in a timely manner.

Minimum Qualifications:
Adjuncts teaching undergraduate courses in ASL, the minimum qualifications include a master’s degree in American Sign Language, Deaf Culture Studies or a closely related field from an accredited institution.

Adjuncts teaching graduate level courses must have a doctoral degree in American Sign Language, Deaf Culture Studies or a closely related field from an accredited institution or meet the tested experience policy.

Documented evidence of fluency in ASL.

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications:
For adjuncts teaching courses in ASL, the preferred qualifications are:

2 years of teaching ASL in a post-secondary setting.

Documented evidence of fluency in ASL.

Examples: ASLPI rating of 4+/5 or SLPI: ASL rating of Advanced, passing a state-level performance exam, submission of teaching demonstration with application materials.

Ability to teach courses on-campus.
