Ball State University’s School of Music welcomes applications for a non-tenure line faculty position as an Assistant Teaching Professor of Voice to begin August 2023.

The School of Music has approximately 350 undergraduate majors, approximately 100 graduate students, and more than 70 artist-teachers. We are known for our wide and varied performance programs and our national leadership in music education. We offer courses in six distinct areas for highly talented and motivated students who have the opportunity to perform in enriching and award-winning ensembles and to work with internationally renowned guest artists.
Salary and benefit packages for this position are competitive, with salaries for this opportunity beginning at $50,000 annually.

Position Function:
Teaching load to include undergraduate and graduate studio applied voice lessons, including the recruitment and maintenance of a strong studio; teach ancillary courses as needed, including but not limited to pedagogy, diction, literature or other courses as needed to serve the School of Music; additional responsibilities include the ability to teach musical theater, jazz and/or commercial music; maintaining a national profile in performance and professional service; performing as a soloist and in faculty ensembles as needed; advancing students in academic matters; and assisting students in job and graduate school placement.

Minimum Qualifications:
Completed master’s degree in vocal performance from an accredited institution by date of appointment and a documented history of professional activity in voice performance.

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications:
Doctorate in vocal performance and/or strong performance/scholarly background as a requisite to serving on the university graduate faculty. Tenor voice preferred. Language skills for performing in English, Italian, German, and French. Teaching experience at the university level.
