Job Description

Works under the direct supervision of the APS Safety Interlocks Group Leader or their designee to coordinate, plan, schedule and oversee work performed by the Safety Interlocks Group technicians, (including temporary contract hires) in the fabrication, assembly, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of the APS safety interlock systems.  Provides technical guidance to technicians and acts as a technical resource to staff in the group.  Works effectively as a team member with staff and other APS groups.  Assists in tracking projects, ordering materials, maintaining an organized lab environment and accurate inventory control.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supervises and coordinates technician effort necessary to fabricate, assemble, install, commission, and maintain the APS safety interlock systems and associate projects.
  • Works with the SI Group Leader or their designee and staff to plan and prioritize technician activities and to allocate resources to meet group objectives and project schedules
  • Provides technical direction for technicians and acts as a technical resource for staff in the SI Group.  Participates in troubleshooting and resolving technical problems with APS safety interlock systems. 
  • Ensures that group’s hardware quality assurance (QA) requirements are followed, and accurate records are kept.
  • Ensures a safe and effective lab space with inventory control for all SI components, with close attention to organizing spares for all SI systems.
  • Promotes a safe working environment for self and others.  Ensures that proper safety equipment and procedures are always used. Helps keep SI WCD documents up-to-date and accurate. Ensures pre and post job briefings are being held by the SI teams
  • Ensures technicians are using proper drawings. Help ensure SI drawings reflect as-built fabrications. Use technician feedback to enhance drawings. Eliminate private redlined drawings when engineers are not providing all the necessary details

Position Requirements

  • Associate's Degree and 9+ years of related experience or equivalent
  • Supervisory skills, communication, and project coordination skills. 
  • Appropriate judgment in assigning tasks and determining project milestones. 
  • Knowledge of ANL/APS/SI policies and procedures.
  • Skilled QA inspector 
  • Knowledge and experience with the fabrication, assembly, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of SI systems at APS.
