Job Description

Summary

Manages and coordinates the daily activities of a Baylor College of Medicine laboratory to assist faculty in advancing research programs. Lab manager will use their knowledge of safety and lab procedures to ensure that laboratories operate smoothly and have opportunity to provide experimental support for ongoing projects. 
 

Job Duties

  • Order laboratory supplies and equipment. Must keep track of financial accounts and work with PI to determine which sources of funding to pay for which orders.
  • Responsible to maintaining inventory and stock piles of frequently used reagents and disposables.
  • Assist others with experiments as needed.
  • Ensure lab members complete certifications mandated by the College.
  • Maintain laboratory space as a organized and functional environment while adhering to biosafety rules.
  • Monitor equipment and identify upgrades as necessary; discuss with PI regarding budget for new purchases and suitable alternatives. 
  • Provide support and conduct trainings to team members when needed.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment by establishing protocols for use, troubleshooting procedures; ensuring staff compliance; arranging equipment replacement, service, and repair.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • Five years of relevant experience, with prior supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic science experience required in research setting. Animal colony management knowledge preferred.
