Staff Scientists at the Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA) pursue research projects together with professors, serving as collaborators with specific expertise not present within research groups. Currently we are looking for a Staff Scientist with experience in van der Waals materials. The Staff Scientist will be associated with the Nanofabrication facility.

The Staff Scientist should foster collaboration between groups at ISTA on projects centered around van der Waals materials and work with groups that are new to vdW’s. This scientist is required to boost the effort in this promising direction, by creating access to vdW devices and developing necessary measurement techniques for the groups interested in vdW materials. Importantly, the Staff Scientist is expected to intellectually contribute to the data interpretation, generating new ideas for devices, and helping to conceive new projects. Moreover, the Staff Scientist will bring, sustain and develop specialized technical and scientific expertise over an extended time.

The Staff Scientist will initially collaborate mainly with the groups of Andrew Higginbotham, Hryhoriy Polshyn, Kimberly Modic, Georgios Katsaros, and Stefan Freunberger. To actively participate in their research the candidate needs to have an active interest in the physics of nanoscale devices and two-dimensional materials.

Your Profile
• PhD and postdoc experience in experimental physics with the focus in the field of vdW materials
• Strong research record and publications in high-impact journals
• Expertise in the fabrication of high-quality vdW heterostructures. Expertise in working with graphene moiré heterostructures and non-graphene vdW materials is strongly desired
• Expertise in low-noise electrical measurements of nanoscale 2D devices at milliKelvin temperatures
• Record of developing unique measurement techniques for 2D devices
