Job Description

This position serves to support the recruitment of diverse student populations, specifically Hispanic/Latino students, for Ball State University. This position will manage a territory where they will be responsible for outreach to high schools and community colleges, attend college fairs, and communicate and counsel prospective and admitted students and parents. This role will also have a responsibility to participate in on-campus and off-campus events hosted by the University and will be encouraged to build and foster relationships within the Hispanic/Latino community and community-based organizations that serve this population.

Job Function:

This position serves to support the recruitment of diverse student populations, specifically Hispanic/Latino students, for Ball State University. This position will manage a territory where they will be responsible for outreach to high schools and community colleges, attend college fairs, and communicate and counsel prospective and admitted students and parents. This role will also have a responsibility to participate in on-campus and off-campus events hosted by the University and will be encouraged to build and foster relationships within the Hispanic/Latino community and community-based organizations that serve this population.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution by time of appointment.

Preferred Education:

Master’s degree in student affairs, education, communication, or related field.

Minimum Experience:

At least one year of relevant educational or outreach work experience.

Preferred Experience:

Additional years of related experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage recruitment territory; extensive travel for approximately ten to twelve weeks; possess working knowledge and familiarity of high schools and guidance counselors in assigned market area to include visit policy, enrollment history (into Ball State), and academic profile of each high school; provide support with targeted recruitment visits to feeder high schools, spring visits to attract high school juniors, by: making decisions with the Associate Director of Undergraduate Admissions regarding which schools to visit, making decisions independently regarding timing and scheduling of visits, performing appropriate follow-up, cultivating non-productive high schools, maintaining positive relationships with guidance professionals, and assessing market culture to meet enrollment goals.

  • Develop outreach strategy and represent Ball State at admissions-related initiatives including, but not limited to: high school visits, community college events, college fairs, on-campus recruitment or yield events, and off-campus recruitment or yield events.

  • Develop outreach strategies with a specific focus on diversity and Hispanic/Latino specific prospective student engagement in collaboration with communication managers.

  • Travel to above events within assigned territory as well as diversity and Hispanic/Latino specific events.

  • Daily management of recruitment-related tasks including evaluating admission applications.
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with community-based organizations outside of the university that offer specific Hispanic/Latino and diverse student populations.

  • Work with campus partners to develop and implement on and off campus programs designed to increase visibility of Ball State to prospective students as well as yield focused activities.

  • Work with communications team to create, interpret/adapt, and implement targeted communication plans based on population needs.

  • Counsel students and families on admissions process.

  • Collaborate with Welcome Center and student Tour Guide program to assist with recruitment of Hispanic/Latino and underrepresented students to be a part of the organization.

  • Maintain strong connections with campus partners including the cultural/diversity centers on campus to ensure the needs of underrepresented students, Hispanic/Latino students specifically, are addressed in policies, events and communications.

  • Develop and implement bi-lingual communication plan and provide insight on best practices for engagement and relationship building for this specific population.

  • Participate in university, local, state, and national level organizations to stay informed of issues concerning diversity in higher education.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
