Manager, Pathologist Assistant

Description: 

The Manager Pathologist Assistant, working under the direction of the Administrative Director of Anatomic Pathology, provides leadership and oversight of the Frozen/Gross Room Laboratories. Assigned technical sections include all Frozen/Gross Room departments across all Moffitt locations to include Moffitt Magnolia Campus (MCC), Clinical Support Building (CSB), Moffitt McKinley Outpatient Clinic (MKC), and Moffitt McKinley Hospital (MMH).

The manager serves as the resource for coordination of research projects, test validation, and clinical test implementation activities in the department. Duties for this position include management of daily operations, personnel management, budgetary/fiscal responsibilities, research project management, quality assurance and assessment, regulatory and billing compliance, ensuring accurate design of LIS and IT processes, and coordination of projects and shared interdepartmental activities. The manager also serves as the department's liaison or internal consultant for both inpatient and outpatient areas of the organization. The laboratory manager relies on experience and sound independent judgment to formulate strategic goals and to also resolve day-to day operational issues. Emphasis is placed on high quality patient care, operational efficiency, turnaround times, and meeting budget targets. 

Additionally, the manager must have the technical expertise to provide technical consultation and oversight over pathologist assistants, specimen receipt and accessioning, grossing, frozen sections, autopsy service, training of residents and fellows, works closely with research/tissue core lab in triaging specimens for tissue banking and research protocols, and maintenance of grossing guidelines. This position functions under the direct supervision of the Director of Surgical Pathology or his designee.

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or related sciences required.  
  • Master's Degree in Pathologist Assistant program preferred. 
  • ASCP Certified Pathologist Assistant required.
  • AAPA preferred.
  • Minimum of five years relevant anatomic pathology laboratory operations experience at the laboratory manager and/or supervisory level.
  • Minimum of five years' experience in a clinical laboratory setting as a Pathologist Assistant preferably in an academic oncology institution, prior to management/supervisory experience.
