Position Description
The Haigis lab has an opening for a highly motivated and organized lab and administrative assistant to support various functions for the principal investigator and the lab.

The position consists of three main areas: providing direct administrative support to the lab’s principal investigator, purchasing, and lab safety.
 
  • The candidate will provide direct administrative support to the lab’s principal investigator, which includes assisting with travel arrangements and reimbursements. In addition, the candidate will assist the PI with training grant compilation and progress reports.
  • The candidate may assist with coordinating special seminars, events, and meeting scheduling.
  • The candidate will be responsible for purchasing and electronically receiving research materials, supplies and lab equipment/instruments using Harvard’s internal HCOM- purchasing system. Will handle invoices and preparing purchase requisitions for the finance department and will maintain a weekly overview of lab expenses for budget purposes.
  • The candidate will serve as the lab’s safety representative, which includes overseeing compliance with safety-related protocols and guidelines and managing the lab’s safety roster in PeopleSoft and in Harvard’s Assessment & Inspection Management System (AIMS) to ensure safety training is administered and completed in a timely manner. The candidate will work closely with EH&S (Harvard’s Environmental Health and Safety office) and update the lab chemical inventory online, post updated door placards, and assist lab members with creating SOPs (safety-operating-procedures). The candidate will further update IACUC training records for the lab and coordinate the semi-annual inspection of the LHRRB animal use area.
Basic Qualifications
College background or equivalent work experience, preferably in a related discipline. At least one year of related work experience (relevant coursework may count towards experience).
 
Additional Qualifications and Skills
  • A bachelor's degree is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated abilities in higher education administration are beneficial.
  • Exposure to applicable computer technologies, including specific software applications, may be required.
  • Appropriate communication and writing skills required.
  • Previous experience helpful.
  • Competitive candidates must be organized, independent, and able to multitask.
  • The candidate should be reliable, trustworthy, able to work independently and have strong communication and organizational skills.

 
Additional Information
This is a one-year term position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support the position. 

Offer contingent upon successful completion of a pre-placement medical evaluation.

This is an in-person position based on our campus in Boston.
