Job Summary
The clinical Interventional Radiology Physician Assistant.:
1. Rounds and provides care for patients in general, fast-paced, SDU and ICU settings, as well as in-clinic
2. Is responsible for completing history and physical examinations
3. Ordering appropriate diagnostic studies, synthesizing information and making informed clinical decisions
4. Developing appropriate care plans which are communicated with patients and family members
5. Responding to patient, family and caregiver needs.

This position is responsible for providing both primary and specialty medical services. This position may be required to access and administer medications within their scope of practice and according to state law.
Responsibilities
•Coordinate activities of the Interventional Radiology division, including pre-procedure and post-procedure patient care, orders and case review.
•Provide telephone triage and case evaluation for referring services, patients, and families, including screening for appropriateness of procedure.
•Patient evaluation and consent prior to Interventional Radiology procedures.
•Perform a focused history and physical examination on patients prior to procedures and as needed.
•Serve as consultant to nursing personnel and other health care professionals caring for Interventional Radiology patients.
•Responsible for patient education; this may involve patients, family members or other caregivers.
•Make follow-up telephone calls post-procedure.
•Triage or answer questions regarding post-procedure complications from patients, family and caregivers.
•Make rounds and write progress notes.
•Develop patient education materials related to interventional procedures.
•Coordinate outpatient discharge and write orders as needed.
•Work closely with radiology residents and fellows
•May function as preceptor for PA/NP professionals.
•Assist with clinical research if applicable.OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Provide evaluation and coordination of care for Interventional Radiology patients, including clinic,triage, pre- and post-procedure patient care through collaborative relationships with the IR team.
•Serve as a focal point for referrals and provide continuity of care.
•Manage Interventional Clinic patients independently, with minimal MD supervision.
•Exercise independent judgment in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of certain delegated Medical processes and treatment for Interventional Radiology patients in the clinic, Prep and Recovery, ED and inpatient units.
•Communicate plan of care to referring physicians.
•See and manage consults; coordinate add-on cases; triage, prioritize and problem solve.
•Pre- and post-procedure order entry.
•Provide education and consultation to patients and staff as well as referring service.
•Continuous attention to detail is required.
•Provide clinical leadership in practice; participate in conference and staff development.
•Participate in quality improvement and research projects.

Minimum Qualifications
Current licensure to practice as a Physician’s Assistant from the State of Utah. Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required.

Utah State prescriptive privileges preferred.

To obtain licensure requires graduation from an ARC-PA approved/accredited Physician Assistant program. Specialty experience preferred on a position by position basis. UHPPM 1-56 requires that newly hired non-physician providers apply for credentialing and privileging at the time of hire.

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.
