Job Description

The Materials Science Division (MSD) of Argonne National Laboratory is seeking applicants for a postdoctoral appointee in the area of theoretical condensed matter physics.

The subject of research is topological materials, including topological metals and semimetals. The goal will be to study layered and bulk systems that combine topological elements in their electronic band structure with electronic and magnetic correlations. The work will be in close collaboration with other theoretical and experimental groups and will entail working out theory of correlated phases in topological materials, proposing new realistic materials and devices, and identifying unique experimental signatures of topological phenomena, using linear and nonlinear responses.

Position Requirements

  • Ph.D. degree level with 0 to 3 years of experience or equivalent
  • A strong theoretical background in condensed matter physics is necessary, particularly in the areas of many body physics, mesoscopic, superconductors and topological properties of materials
  • The candidate is expected to work independently and conduct research in a highly interdisciplinary environment, where interaction with experimentalists encouraged
