Position Summary

Provides radiation therapy to patients as prescribed by physician according to established standards and practices. Provides clinical instruction to the Therapy Students. Also functions in one of the following roles: Student Clinical Coordinator or assists Lead Radiation Therapist as needed. Includes all staff therapist responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Delivers a prescribed and planned course of radiation therapy to patients of all ages; answers patient questions and explains procedure.
  • Acts as a resource person for assistance on all complex treatments setups.
  • Transmits radiation therapist instructions to staff and assumes responsibility for their completion.
  • Reports improper equipment operation to appropriate personnel.
  • Observes Radiation Safety Measures for patients and personnel.
  • Provides clinical instruction to radiation therapy students.
  • Performs simulation procedures, as prescribed by physician.
  • Performs daily quality assurance checks on linear accelerators, reports any variation in morning warm-up.
  • Reviews charts of patients on treatment at regular intervals to eliminate dosage, arithmetic or intention errors.
  • Completes billings for patient treatments, setups and simulations.
  • Provides Clinical Student Coordination to the Radiation Therapy Students.
  • Provides clinical leadership in the absence of the Lead Radiation Therapist.
  • Assists in research and development directly related to department services.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reviewing current literature, attending inservice meetings, and workshops.
  • Displays professional attitude and appearance.
  • Attends meetings as required.

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

Minimum Education:

  • Graduate of accredited radiologic technology course plus radiation therapy course.

Minimum Experience:

  • 5 year’s experience.

Pref. Certification/Licensure:

  • Licensed by California State Department of Health (Certified in Radiation Therapy)
  • Registration by ARRT plus 24 month course in radiologic technology
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (BLS) certification (adult & pediatric) through the American Heart Assoication

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from accredited Radiation Therapy program.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in curriculum development, supervision, instruction, evaluation and counseling of radiation therapy students.

Additional Information:

  • Pay Rate: $75.00/hour
  • As a condition of employment, City of Hope requires staff to comply with all state and federal vaccination mandates.

Pay Rate: $53.13 - $85.00 / hour
