Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Business Intelligence, the Data Administration, Coordination, and Insights Specialist will provide support to the UMBC data warehouse within the HelioCampus Data Warehouse, BlackBoard Analytics Data Warehouse, and Informatica vendor solutions using relational and dimensional modeling. Specific duties include: develop and maintain ETL applications; create/modify facts, dimensions and measures; assess and correct system processes related to data warehouse; determine and communicate functional and technical requirements; manage SQL and process for data quality reporting; provide technical support; and perform other duties as assigned.

This role contributes to our expanding efforts to use data as both a tactical and strategic asset to serve our students and their families, faculty, and staff. This position will support the organization and curation of reports, data, and information in ways that makes them easy to access (and for users to find what’s needed) easy to rapidly filter (so that users can better focus on their areas of responsibilities and tasks) and easy to understand and place into context (so that users can act upon it).This position will support the collection, organization, and use of new data, or the use of existing data in new ways, that allow the campus to see new opportunities and challenges, or to see existing data in new ways that help lead to new solutions.

The incumbent will support the conversion of our existing academic and administrative reports from SQL Server to using Redshift as a data source. A key role played by this position is to help ensure that our conversion from Blackboard Analytics to HelioCampus and Helio’s support for our student and financial data models is successful in both the short and the long term, and support additional migration to the Helio environment over time, including finance, HR, and learning analytics data. Depending on our project calendar, this position may also include supporting the conversion of our frozen (census) data to the new HelioCampus environment and ensuring its stability and future success.

This is a telework eligible position.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a Bachelor's degree preferably in computer science, information systems, engineering, or a related field.
Note: Related experience that has provided the requisite skills may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree requirement on a year for year basis with one year of experience being equal to 30 credits (Associate's Degree and two years, No degree and four years, or other equivalent combination).

Minimum of 3 years experience in such functional areas as business intelligence, data architecture, database or data warehouse administration, enterprise resource planning. Demonstrated basic/intermediate skills and experience with the development and use of business intelligence and reporting tools. Must have a high proficiency/fluent in SQL. Must have excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills.

Experience with ETL tools required, with preference to experience with Informatica.

Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge and experience working with Amazon Redshift (database) and Tableau (reporting) and the Microsoft BI/SSRS Stack is preferred. Equivalent tool experience may be acceptable if it has provided an applicant with comparable skills.
