Job Description

Clinical Pathways Specialist (CPS)

 

Position Highlights:

·The Clinical Pathways Specialist (CPS) is responsible for working with select physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop and optimize Clinical Pathways that capture Moffitt clinical care models and best practices in oncology treatment.   The Clinical Pathways are decision support and documentation tools specifically designed to provide physicians and other advanced practice professionals the right information at the right time to support their decision making processes when determining the best practice cancer treatments for patients.  The CPS works with department and program leaders, medical oncologists, surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists, APPs, pharmacists and other clinicians to document the best practice treatments for specific cancers (and related conditions), the related workflow in a multidisciplinary care setting, and the supporting medical evidence and tools.  While documenting the clinical pathways, the Clinical Pathways Specialist drives the standardization of content creation and consensus development from a range of experts acting as pathways authors and collaborators.   Once the best practices are captured, the CPS translates this information into a visual process flow with supporting documentation and partners with other pathways team members to then transform it into an interactive, Internet-based tool.  

 

·The CPS develops content for, supports, and participates in clinical pathways department meetings and Moffitt committee meetings as needed.   In addition, projects related to process improvement, pathways adherence, pathways adoption, pathways education, and collaboration with clinical research objectives will be assigned based on the needs of the department.  The role may also require clinical chart review validation and the analysis of clinical practice patterns, practice alignment to clinical pathways and other related metrics.

The Ideal Candidate:

 

·Must have IT/clinical Informatics familiarity and knowledge. Preference will be given to candidates who are comfortable working with spreadsheets, databases, and data listings, as well as those who can demonstrate experience in more than one of the following:  patient care, clinical process documentation, and chart review.

 

Responsibilities:

 

·Develops Clinical Pathways in collaboration with assigned pathway authors, department chairs/program leaders, clinical/ancillary staff, and the clinical pathways team and maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation

·Manages and/or contributes to clinical pathways-related projects to improve pathways quality, usage, integration, adoption, and department-related operational processes;  develops strategies to regularly report progress toward department defined goals and metrics

·Works to educate clinical teams regarding development and adoption of clinical pathways and related best practices

Credentials and Qualifications:

·Bachelor's degree - Nursing or other appropriate healthcare related field

·RN**Other advanced health degrees or medical certifications may be considered in lieu of RN (nursing certification). *RN - Active License, but Florida license not required

·Minimum 5 years of clinical experience in hospital environment

o   *RN - Active License, but Florida license not required.

o    **Other advanced health degrees AND/OR medical certifications may be considered "in lieu of" RN.

·Demonstrated skills in content/workflow management, process design and clinical process documentation, change management, facilitation, project management and leadership, as evidenced by recommendation letters, references, interviews, and demonstration.

·Must have IT/clinical Informatics familiarity and knowledge. Preference will be given to candidates who are comfortable working with spreadsheets, databases, and data listings, as well as those who can demonstrate experience in more than one of the following:  patient care, clinical process documentation, and chart review.

·Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Visio.

·Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

·Attention to detail

Preferred:

·Master's degree  

·OCN - Oncology Certified Nurse

·Oncology experience preferred

·Other oncology specialty licenses/certifications

·Clinical Informatics specialty licenses/certifications

·Experience developing or maintaining clinical process documentation highly desired.

·Oncology experience preferred.

·Demonstrated involvement in extensive clinical workflow design and process documentation.

·Prior experience working in close partnerships with physicians to document or design solutions and experience facilitating physician design discussions.

·An understanding of Cerner Millennium clinical workflow.

·Preference will be given to candidates who are comfortable working with spreadsheets, databases, and data listings, as well as those who can demonstrate experience in more than one of the following:  patient care, clinical process documentation, and chart review.
