Perform expert coding: design, develop code at an expert level, and manage development projects, teams, programs. May manage multiple projects simultaneously.
The Salesforce Developer & Release Manager will be part of the Harvard Medical School’s Information Systems team, which is responsible for the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) from project inception through implementation. The team also provides ongoing support for Harvard Medical School systems that support core functions related (but not limited to) Human Resources, Finance, Research Administration, Facilities Management, and Faculty and Student Affairs.
The Salesforce Developer & Release Manager will report to the Salesforce Product Owner. Working with other IT staff, they will develop, test, configure, and deploy, HMS IT’s Salesforce implementation. They will also manage the Salesforce release process, including continuous integration (CI), continuous delivery (CD), and automated testing.
The ideal candidate will be energized by solving problems in new and innovative ways, is comfortable working in an ever-changing environment, and can engage with stakeholders to identify the minimal viable product for frequent delivery of new technology solutions.
Develop customized solutions within the Salesforce platform to support critical business functions and meet project objectives, client requirements, and organization goals
Lead the testing and implementation of software development efforts, including coding, configuration, maintenance, installation, testing, and debugging, as well as managing timelines and producing technical documentation.
Manage development environments, including multiple sandboxes, scratch orgs and dev hubs
Work closely with business teams to develop complex CRM solutions that follow best practices. This may involve discussing trade-offs with other groups, such as the terms of the configuration versus the code in place, or mapping the functional requirements to Salesforce functionality
Manage daily support of release process and conduct long-term improvements to ensure compatibility with evolving mission requirements
Communicate with project managers, clients, and other developers to design cohesive project strategies and ensure effective collaboration throughout all phases of development, testing and deployment
Maintain a flexible and proactive work environment to facilitate quick responses to changing project requirements and customer objectives and innovate ways to meet mission goals successfully
Interact directly with clients, managers, and end-users as necessary to analyze project objectives and capability requirements, including specifications for user interfaces, customized applications, and interactions with internal Salesforce instances
Provide tier-two support of internal and customer-facing Salesforce environment, primarily related to customized applications, workflows, and integrations

Research, design, and implement technical solutions to deliver business requirements
Identify opportunities to improve and simplify applications portfolio and implement related enhancements
Contribute to creation and maturing of software development best practices and new technologies
Draw on relationship and technical skills to act as technical liaison to internal and external clients and to mentor junior staff
Abide by and follow the Harvard University IT technical standards, policies and Code of Conduct
Minimum of five years' post-secondary education and/or relevant work experience
Additional Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field of study, or equivalent
Minimum of six years of technical work and two years of Salesforce development
Salesforce Platform Developer I Certification
Extensive knowledge of Apex, SOQL, Visualforce and Lightning Web Component
Proven background launching significant system enhancements and release cycles
Deep experience managing metadata as code, including Salesforce DX, git and unmanaged packages
Experience designing and deploying CD and CI systems
Ability to automate functional web testing
Knowledge of information technology applications, processes, software and equipment
Highly specialized knowledge of a specific technology
Demonstrated team performance skills, service mindset approach, and the ability to act as a trusted advisor
