Job Summary

The Coordinator of Student Involvement: Student Unions serves as a subject matter expert that supports engagement and retention of students through student employment, appropriate facilities management, and maintaining a union environment that reflects our university values.

The Coordinator manages institutional processes related to recruitment, hiring, performance management, timekeeping, and termination of 40+ student employees. The Coordinator also assists the Director of Student Engagement in the leadership and student development of all student staff. The Coordinator also provides full-cycle support (from inquiry to post-event recap) for campus colleagues interested in using the Jaguar Student Activity Center. The Coordinator also assists in the maintenance and upkeep of the union to ensure a safe environment for faculty, staff, and students. Using student feedback, campus colleague perspectives, and evidence-based practices, the Coordinator works diligently to promote a welcoming student union experience.

The Coordinator of Student Involvement: Student Union will also be called upon to serve as an engaged member of our cross-functional team. They are expected to be a proactive member of our collaborative environment, ultimately focusing on the creation of a thriving campus environment for all of our students.

Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to:

CREATE AND EXECUTE A HUMAN RESOURCES STRATEGY THAT ENSURES THE UNION IS AT APPROPRIATE STAFFING LEVELS TO SUPPORT CO-CURRICULAR STUDENT LEARNING: Recruit, hire, onboard, train, and develop 40+ student employees to effectively staff the Jaguar Student Activity Center. Perform biweekly timekeeping, responsibilities that reflects time accuracy and adherence to all university, local, state, and federal policies, and laws. Maintain JSAC employee files (ad hoc salary changes, GPA initiatives, good behavior tracking, training, etc.).

PROVIDE SPACE AND EVENT CONSULTATIONS TO REGISTERED STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS AND UNIVERSITY PARTNERS: Exercise independent decision-making in regard to risk management and event programming within the JSAC. Effectively schedule reserved spaces and ensure that room setups are in compliance with university, local, state, and federal policies, and guidelines. Perform the full cycle process of space reservation (inquiry to post-event recap).

ASSIST IN CREATING A LEARNING ENVIRONMENT FOR JSAC STUDENT EMPLOYEES: Implement a leadership and student development program that follows NACE competencies, student employment best practices, and evidence-backed research. Develop and oversee a positive recognition program that encourages peer-to-peer recognition. Provide regular training dedicated to customer service, department and university initiatives, and other topics deemed necessary.

PARTICIPATE AND ASSIST: Participate and assist with other functions of the Department of Student Life and Engagement.

OTHER DUTIES: Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and 1 year of experience applicable to students and student development.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited college or university. Experience with registered student organizations and/or university department's event planning.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

KNOWLEDGE

Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer/ databases

Knowledge and practical application of student development theory.

Understanding and demonstrated commitment to programs and activities that support a welcoming and cohesive campus community.

SKILLS

Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills

Detail-oriented with strong organizational, prioritization, and customer service skills

Willingness to adjust personal schedule to the needs of the student's union, and the necessity to observe, participate in, and evaluate programs.

ABILITIES

Ability to maintain confidentiality

Ability to advise, teach, and coach university students.

Ability to supervise student staff.

Ability to collaborate and develop partnerships with various university departments, faculty, staff, and student organizations.

Ability to easily relate with people and project a feeling of confidence and competence and handle stressful situations with ease and in a most professional manner.

Demonstrated commitment to practicing open and effective communication with all students, faculty, and staff in an effort to build and maintain collaborative relationships.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Monday- Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required)

Pay Grade: 14

Salary: $36,197/annually - $40,000/annually

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position

Conditions of Employment
