GROUP LEADER – CANCER IMMUNOLOGY PROGRAM

Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre (Peter Mac) is seeking multiple exceptional new research Group Leaders within the Cancer Immunology Program. The candidates will have an established or aspiring skill-set and broad strategic fit with our key strengths and strategic priorities.
The Peter Mac Cancer Immunology Program was established 24 years ago and is a recognised world leader in fundamental tumour immunology research and translation of immunotherapies for cancer into clinical practice. Peter Mac is seeking to appoint multiple outstanding researchers/clinical researchers in the field of cancer immunology/immunotherapy including haematology and solid tumours. The Group Leaders will develop and lead a team conducting internationally significant and innovative research to enhance our understanding of cancer development from fundamental biological principles of cancer to progression, evolution and translation into clinical practice.
Applications should consist of a full curriculum vitae detailing full employment history with relevant achievements and detailing professional qualifications. This should be accompanied by a covering letter describing how you meet the selection criteria and a two-page research vision statement.
Selection Criteria
• A substantial track record of career achievement in an area of immunology relevant to cancer
• A strong national reputation and an established or emerging international reputation (dependent on level of experience)
• A track record of securing significant funding for the research activities through peer- reviewed, commercial, philanthropic or other appropriate sources
• A demonstrated capacity to lead and appropriately manage a team of researchers and students with consideration to their physical and mental well being
• A demonstrated capacity to manage a research budget commensurate with research output and funding income
• A track record of successful supervision of graduate and postgraduate students
• A history of having made significant collegiate contributions in medical research, locally and nationally
• Ability to promote productive research collaborations between Institutes and Universities

Remuneration as per Allied Health Professionals (Victorian Public Sector) (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement 2021 – 2026 - Senior Research Fellow Level C (1RV1) to Senior Principal Research Fellow Level E (1PE5) dependant on candidate qualification and experience from $150,529.60 per annum to $226,517.20 per annum.

Position Summary

We have a specific focus on building and expanding our Cancer Immunology Program. The Peter Mac Cancer Immunology Program was established 24 years ago and is a recognised world leader in fundamental tumour immunology research and translation of immunotherapies for cancer into clinical practice. Peter Mac is seeking to appoint multiple outstanding researchers/clinical researchers in the field of cancer immunology/immunotherapy including haematology and solid tumours.
The Group Leaders will develop and lead a team conducting internationally significant and innovative research to enhance our understanding of cancer development from fundamental biological principles of cancer to progression, evolution and translation into clinical practice.
The Group Leaders are responsible for ensuring that their group’s financial and operational processes are sustainable and in accordance with regulatory, commercial and ethical obligations. They will be driven to achieve excellence in research outputs, mentorship and make a significant contribution to the local, national and international scientific communities.
Appointments will be considered at the level of new group leader (Level C) through to experienced Professor (Level E).
An honorary academic position will be made available through the Sir Peter MacCallum Department of Oncology, University of Melbourne.
