Innovation Associate (Intern)
Position Highlights:
- The Innovation Office interns perform vital responsibilities for the office. Our interns are given meaningful work and big projects to complete. Using their science knowledge, Innovation Office interns are taught methods to find appropriate potential innovation partners (licensing and industry alliances) and to gather business intelligence. They prepare marketing materials to engage industry in Moffitt research, facilitate the development of research plans and help coordinate meetings between faculty researchers and industry. Innovation Office’s activities are increasing Moffitt’s research financial viability. Interns are highly skilled, learn quickly and are motivated to do well. Interns make the Innovation Office more efficient and effective.
Responsibilities:
- will utilize various approaches including cost, market, and revenue methodologies to ascertain a reasonable value and price for the technology.
- will aid in the preparation of the critical sections of the presentation: technology description, market size, competition, management team, development timeline, and fundraising needs.
- assist with drafting an executive summary describing the unmet need, technology, management team, and proposed return on investment.
- aid in the preparation of the main sections of a business plan: executive summary, technology description, development plan, market analysis, competitive landscape, management team, financial projections, fundraising and exit strategy.
- may assist with patent filing and prosecution, searching the federal database for trademark availability, filing federal copyright and trademark applications, and/or obtaining specimens for trademark allowances and renewals.
- will review contract definitions and terms for consistency and ascertain if any provision is unfavorable to Moffitt and/or contrary to Moffitt policy.
- may prepare research memorandums germane to the research and discovery efforts at Moffitt including: human subject research, export law, intellectual property law, contract law, drug and device regulatory pathways, and tax law
- will complete a patent and scientific literature search to find relevant references as well as perform market research to understand the potential market and competitive advantages.
Credentials and Experience:
- High School Diploma/GED
