Job Description
We are Argonne National Laboratory, a U.S. Department of Energy multidisciplinary science and engineering research center located in Lemont, IL, where talented researchers work together to answer the biggest questions facing humanity.
We are seeking candidates for an Assistant Nuclear Facility Manager in our Nuclear Waste Management Division.
This position is responsible for the management and oversight of maintenance in the assigned Nuclear Facilities. Reports to the Nuclear Facility Manager.
- Plans and coordinates weekly maintenance and operational schedules. Develops and maintains work control documents and hazard analysis for routine and emergent work activities.
- Oversee nuclear facility operations, decommissioning, and demolition support staff to ensure compliance with DOE nuclear facility safety regulations and requirements.
- Develops and implements corrective actions for deficiencies identified through reviews, self assessments, and independent assessments or audits.
- Interfaces with external oversight organizations related to facility and utility operations.
- Ensures the technical accuracy of nuclear facility work control documents.
- Candidate must maintain operational and facility qualifications required under DOE Order 426.2 and may serve as the Nuclear Facility Manager in the Facility Manager’s absence.
- These duties require extensive coordination and collaboration with external and internal workgroups.
Position Requirements
Responsible for the safe operation and maintenance aspects (including safety, operational, maintenance and personnel administration) of the Laboratory`s Hazard Category 2 and 3 Nuclear Facilities, the candidate must have, or be able to obtain, the following skills:
- Considerable knowledge of nuclear facility operations.
- Considerable knowledge of OHSA, NEC, NFPA, NEPA and safety policies, manuals, and procedures.
- Considerable knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, system drawings, quality assurance requirements, PAAA and ORPS requirements, and radiological protection practices and requirements.
- Good knowledge of criticality safety, and safe handling of fissile and other radioactive materials .
- Good organizational skills and ability to interpret technical documents.
- Good ability to write in a clear, direct style. Good verbal and written communications skills for interactions with subordinates, superiors and external contacts.
- Experience with Microsoft Office
- Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.
- This position will be hybrid, on-site presence will be required 2-3 days each week.

Preferred
- Considerable knowledge of DOE and Laboratory safety policies, manuals, and procedures is highly preferred.
