What Your Job Will Be Like:

Sandia National Laboratories is seeking a proactive and team-oriented Information Security Specialist (Limited Term Employee) to be a member of the Security Awareness team to develop, assist and implement various security outreach activities and Department of Energy (DOE) order requirements (e.g. required security briefings).

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Partner with Safeguards & Security (S&S) programs to develop, update and implement DOE required Security Awareness briefings for members of the workforce (MOW).
  • Present Security Awareness briefings to various organizations about security related policies to audiences ranging from 10-50+ people.
  • Develop and implement Security Awareness campaigns, presentations, handouts, and activities targeting specific S&S policies and/or security concerns.
  • Develop, update and/or maintain program training, controlled documents and policies.
  • Ensure execution of the SF 312, Non-Disclosure Agreement for newly cleared personnel as required by DOE Order.
  • Lead and support the Security Connection team to partner with S&S programs to develop, update and maintain accurate knowledge base articles.
  • Lead and support the Security Connection team to assist with timely responses to customer calls/inquiries about S&S related policies and requirements.
  • Partner with Security Incident Management Program (SIMP) to assist with receiving calls/reports about potential incident of security concern.
  • Support management directed requests such as data/metrics gathering, audit support, corrective action related activities.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range:

$70,200 - $135,400

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience (Master’s degree in a relevant field; an Associate degree in a relevant field plus 4 years of relevant experience; or a HS Diploma plus 8 years of relevant experience).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active DOE Q-level security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Familiarity and experience with Sandia security programs, S&S policies, organizations, procedures, and administrative systems.
  • Graduate degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience developing requirements/content for training, as well as developing and implementing awareness campaigns.
  • Experience developing tools/resources for MOW to implement security requirements and best practices (e.g., job aids, checklists, handouts, presentations, posters, etc).
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully coordinate and complete multiple projects and tasks, work with and respond to a diverse customer base.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative, solve problems, achieve results with minimal direction, and work independently on multiple concurrent activities to meet a variety of customer requirements and changing priorities and short deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply critical-thinking skills to synthesize disparate detailed data into useful information, such as developing information for briefings and presentations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal), including the ability to clearly and concisely communicate and present information to large audiences (50+ people).
  • Creativity in developing new methods of how information is presented to MOW.

About Our Team:

Org. 9257, Security Information and Awareness is part of Sandia’s Safeguards & Security (S&S) Center, whose primary function is protection and support of Sandia’s mission, information, resources, and people. We strive to develop strategic partnerships and provide effective tools and resources to fully integrate security into every aspect of the work performed at Sandia. The Security Information and Awareness Department is comprised of Security Connection, Security Awareness, Operations Security (OPSEC), and the S&S Insider Threat Analyst. The department is responsible for providing information and assistance that all Members of the Workforce need to perform their work in a secure manner. Information is disseminated via the Security Connection knowledgebase, in Security Awareness briefings, through security-related training, and through interaction and assessment of activities.

Posting Duration:

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Position Information:

This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years.

Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
