Job Description

Summary

Our lab studies repetitive DNA, with a focus on tandem repeats. We use several techniques from genome biology, molecular biology, and chemical biology, with a focus on translating these discoveries into new therapies. As such, our interns will receive training on specific laboratory techniques such as next-generation DNA sequencing, long-read DNA sequencing, mammalian cell culture, molecular biology (RT-PCR, western blot, agarose gel electrophoresis), and bioinformatics. Students can also participate in chemical biology experiments where we create and test new classes of molecules in the lab.

Job Purpose

Provides temporary administrative or laboratory support to a department while gaining practical work experience.

Job Duties

  • Assists in molecular cloning experiments.
  • Prepares standard solutions and simple mammalian culture media.
  • Cleans laboratory equipment, glassware, and other material.
  • Conducts basic sample preparation tasks for cell culture or DNA sequencing experiments.
  • Designs and implements a related independent project as guided by the PI.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in high school or be a high school graduate (or equivalent secondary education) or enrolled in an institution of higher education.
