Summary

This position is located within IQuESt, the Center for Innovation in Quality, Effectiveness and Safety. We are the largest center for Health Services Research within the Southwest. We conduct high-quality scientific research that improves the health of patients across the nation, by helping to ensure the patient-centered delivery of scientific discoveries. We are seeking a talented individual for a full-time position to join our team at Baylor College of Medicine- Center for Innovation in Quality, Education and Safety (IQuESt). This is a Health Educator position supporting the Patient Priorities Care team. Job duties involve providing information to individuals and/or communities in an effort to maintain, improve, and adopt healthy lifestyles. The Health Educator position supports development, implementation and evaluation of instructional activities for health professions trainees, practicing clinicians, communities and individuals on a range of topics relevant to the health promotion and wellbeing of older adults.

The ideal candidate should be enthusiastic, organized, detail-oriented, professional, proactive, willing to be flexible and have excellent communication skills. Be an independent problem-solver and a team-player. The Health Educator will work directly with older adults, caregivers and other direct care workers in the community who support the health and wellness of older people, so experience working with the aging population is encouraged but not required. The Health Educator will also work with inter-professional clinician-educators and other healthcare professionals of differing backgrounds, so exceptional interpersonal skills are important. Experience and/or interest in graphic communications, such as the design of infographics and maps, is highly desired.

Job Duties

  • Develops and presents health education and promotion programs such as training workshops orconferences in small groups as well as individual sessions.
  • Participates in community projects, presentations, and outreach activities.
  • Documents activities and records information for administrative support of the Patient Priorities Care tele-education program
  • Develops and maintains cooperative working relationships with agencies and organizations.
  • Prepares and distributes advertising and health education materials, including, but not limited to, reports and visual aids such as, videos, infographics, posters, and brochures.
  • Assists in the development of curriculum and resultant instructional activities, including partnering with course/program directors to facilitate development of learning objectives and relevant instructional materials.
  • Collaborates with health professionals and community organizations to determine needs of relevant learner groups and theavailability of services, and to develop instructional materials for meeting the identified needs.
  • Designs and conducts evaluations to assess the quality and impact of instructional activity .
  • Partners with faculty educators to ensure recommendations for improvement are reviewed and implemented as appropriate.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Health Education, Public Health, Community Health, Behavioral Science or a related field.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Medical Education.
  • Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) from the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc (NCHEC).
