College/Department Information
Researching Heart Attack, Heart Failure, Stroke, Hypertension, Diabetes... With the increasing frequency of obesity and diabetes, especially in Georgia, cardiovascular disease is reaching epidemic proportions. The Vascular Biology Center at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University knows the demand is high for new and better treatments. Our internationally recognized team of research experts have one goal - to make breakthroughs in the prevention and treatment of disease so that we all may live longer, healthier lives.
Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Maintain a clean and tidy lab environment.
  • Assist postdocs when needed.
  • Mouse breeding and genotyping through PCR and agarose gels and assist in the updating and maintenance of mouse database.
  • Daily tissue culture/ lab maintenance.
  • Set up breeder pairs, perform PCR genotyping and run results of PCR on agarose gels.
  • Maintain lab by cleaning lab benches, changing bench paper, dusting and wiping down equipment, checking power status for all equipment, ensuring critical research items are not left on benches before leaving home, picking up packages from main office, taking glassware/ tips/tubes for washing/autoclaving downstairs and picking up at end of day, organizing glassware and chemicals on shelves, cleaning centrifuges and water baths, ensure all small equipment is wiped cleaned daily from inside and out, filling tip boxes and tube containers and taking downstairs for autoclaving/pickup and stocking as appropriate, ensuring all such reagents/buffers are dated and kept well-stocked for lab use.
  • Daily tissue culture room maintenance including discard of waste media, wiping down benches, checking power for all equipment and ensuring microscope lamp is not left on, inventory and stocking of cell culture room/lab, assist fill liquid nitrogen and provide support for lab members.
  • Perform all other related duties/tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research; OR Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years' experience in a research, basic science or clinical setting particularly clinical trials research.
Preferred Qualifications
Mouse colony management experience. Western blot experience and general lab experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Detail-oriented with strong organizational, multi-tasking, problem-solving and prioritization skills.
ABILITIES
Ability to maintain confidentiality, to complete work, and to meet deadlines. Willingness and ability to work with research animals. Energetic self-starter and goal-focused. Ability to work independently with only general supervision.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required).
Salary: $15.00-$17.42 hourly.
Pay Grade: R9
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
