Job Description
ROLE SUMMARY
The CMAO Operational and Change Excellence Vaccines Lead is a key member of the Operational & Change Excellence team within the Transformation & Ops Excellence Medical Global Platform. They combine organizational expertise with an understanding of CMAO’s strategic priorities to ensure coordination with the Global Medical Platforms and compliant and efficient execution of plans in the Vaccines Medical Affairs organization. Broadly, their main objective is to:
- Represent the Global Platform within the Vaccines Medical Affairs organization to drive a smooth transition to the new ways of working and facilitate change management.
- Provide robust strategic, operational, and budgetary support to the Vaccines Medical Affairs organization.
To this end, the CMAO Operational and Change Excellence Vaccines Lead will:
- Lead efforts on behalf of the Vaccines Medical Affairs CMAO and the Global Medical Platforms to establish / optimize / evolve the Medical team to ensure alignment, and monitor efficiency, effectiveness & compliance.
- Independantly lead implementation of new ways of working and ensure dissemination of change management communications within the Vaccines Medical Affairs organization and Operational Excellence team when supporting the Vaccines Category.
- Represent Global Transformation & Ops Excellence Medical Platform and serves as key point of coordination and communication between Category and Platform.
- Provide strategic guidance to Vaccines Medical Affairs colleagues focused on the delivery of high priority projects and senior management requests.
- Represent the CMAO and Vaccines Medical Affairs organization in cross functional forums including with commercial teams.
- Lead budget management and the Operating Plan development to ensure Vaccines MA resources are well balanced to meet strategic objectives both internally and externally.
- Lead / Co-lead strategic initiatives focused on equity, digital and critical scientific initiatives.
The CMAO Operational and Change Excellence Vaccines Lead reports to the Operational & Change Excellence Lead. They directly support the Vaccines Chief Medical Affairs Officer (CMAO) and closely collaborates with the Global, Regional, Cluster, and Country Medical Leads, and the Above Brand and Brand Medical Directors.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
The CMAO Operational and Change Excellence Vaccines Lead will provide operational support to the CMAO and partner with the Vaccines Medical Affairs Leadership Team (LT) to ensure efficient functioning of the Vaccines Medical Affairs organization and drive its strategic direction
- Governance
- Support effective governance processes/meetings, including Vaccines Medical Affairs LT, Regional Medical LTs & other medical governance committees, as well as other cross functional Hospital Category governance committees led by CMAO.
- Responsible for end to end fit for purpose governance planning/execution.
- Provide thought partnership to CMAO/ Vaccine & Antivirals Medical Affairs LT / Vaccines Medical Affairs on key issues and topics.
- Help address & coordinate resolution of requests from various stakeholders.
- Work and align with key internal stakeholders to ensure consistencies.
- Support Vaccines Medical Affairs coordination efforts with Other Category Operational Excellence (including Cross-Category Operational Medical Forum).
- Strategy Development
- Lead efforts in partnership with CMAO & Product/Regional Hospital Medical Groups for development of 3-5 year Vaccine & Antivirals Medical Affairs Vision, Strategy & Goals.
- Provide thought partnership to CMAO/ Vaccines Medical Affairs on strategic & operational issues / topics.
- Lead and/or provide strategic direction for project teams on Vaccines Medical Affairs critical initiatives.
- Define project scope, set strategic goals/objectives & develop project execution plans with clearly defined milestones/metrics.
- Drive change & transformations, working collaboratively with Vaccines Medical Affairs colleagues, cross-functional Category & other stakeholders as well as senior leaders to deliver actionable solutions to resolve complex challenges.
- Effectively facilitate/influence complex & strategic conversations.
The CMAO Operational and Change Excellence Vaccine & Antivirals Lead will guide the Vaccines Medical Affairs organization to provide robust operational support for ensuring compliant & efficient functioning.
- Operational and Budgetary support for Vaccines Medical Affairs organization
- Lead annual Operating Plan for the Vaccines Category, working closely with Vaccines Medical Affairs colleagues, MEI Planning & Impact team, Finance, Commercial, PHI, and other stakeholders
- Lead development of Operating Plan communication for Vaccines Medical Affairs LT
- Lead and oversee all budgetary Vaccines operations, including Global and US budgets
- Ensuring timely contracting and meeting all financial spend targets related to medical activities and projects
- Lead resource forecasting and tracking to ensure spending is aligend with budget targets
- Lead efforts for development of Vaccines Medical Affairs specific transparent budget/resource planning and allocation algorithms/models, as well as manage resource planning, allocation & staffing
- Lead planning/co-ordination of offshore resources, as needed
The CMAO Operational and Change Excellence Vaccines Lead will represent the Global Transformation & Ops Excellence Medical Platform and partner with the CMAO and Vaccines Medical Affairs LT to drive implementation of new ways of working
- Operating Model & Ways of Working
- Lead communication of new ways of working on behalf of Global Transformation & Ops Excellence Medical Platform for the Vaccines Medical Affairs Organization, in close collaboration with the Platform Change Management Communication Lead.
- Drive implementation, maintenance & optimization of Vaccines Medical Affairs new operating model on behalf of CMAO and Global Transformation & Ops Excellence Medical Platform.
- Ensure Operational Excellence team is following new ways of working when supporting the Vaccines Medical Affairs Organization.
- Coordination with Global Transformation & Ops Excellence Medical Platform
- Represent platform in cross functional forums including with Vaccines commercial teams.
- Lead communication between Platform and Vaccines Medical Affairs Organization.
- Communicate updates to target operating model to Vaccines Medical Affairs Organization.
- Respond to inquiries from Vaccines Medical Affairs Organization on Global platform services, new ways of working and change management efforts.
- Enhancing digital adaptation of technologies: Foster innovation by embedding digital adaptation and building strategy
BASICQUALIFICATIONS
Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.
- Bachelor’s degree required and 10+ years experience, advanced degree (e.g., masters) highly preferred and 8+ years experience; PharmD/PHD and 6+ years experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- >8 years of experience in Project Management, Business Operations
- Prior experience in Medical Affairs is highly preferred.
- >8 years of experience in pharmaceutical industry or related fields
- Previous people management experience preferred
- Understanding and adherence to Project Management methodologies
- Clinical Trial Experience preferred
- Highly skilled in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Ability to work independently with shown flexibility and organizational awareness
- Ability to create & oversee complex projects, including budget management & fiscal awareness
- Ability to effectively collaborate across multiple functions including Medical (Customer Facing and HQ), Medical Information, Corporate Communications, Digital, and Commercial
- Must be decisive, exercise good judgment in decisions, organized and with the ability to prioritize a large workload.
- Ability to manage resources, programs and multiple projects.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $161,600.00 to $269,400.00.* In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 20.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
